In times of Zoom meetings and classes, a tablet is sometimes a better alternative than a laptop, thanks to the ease of use and portability.
If you are looking for a tablet primarily to read, we suggest skipping tablets altogether and get yourself a kindle.

The iPad Pro comes in two sizes – 11 inches and 12.9 inches. They are better than the 10.2-inch screen of the regular Apple iPad Pro. The screen is more color-accurate and has a higher refresh rate.
The display is the best in tablets and sets a level that cannot be matched by other tablets. Videos are sharp and clear thanks to the Retina HD display with 2388 x 1668 pixels.
The 120 hz refresh rate makes watching videos and animations smooth and seamless.
Thanks to the A12Z bionic chip, the iPad Pro can do anything can at a blazing fast speed, from games to high-resolution videos.
You can use an Apple pencil to write or draw or sketch. It really is cool and some people even prefer this to write on pen and paper.
Multitasking is a cakewalk. You can throw anything at this tablet and it will handle it.
Apple advertises the battery at a 10-hours of usage owing to the 9780 mAh battery in it. You get more hours if you don’t use cellular or WiFi data a lot.
It has two cameras at the back, one 12MP Wide camera and the other, a 10MP Ultra-Wide camera accompanied by a LiDAR scanner. In the front, it has a 7 MP TrueDepth camera.
It comes with Face ID and not a fingerprint scanner.
The camera on the 2020 iPad Pro has vastly improved over the previous ones and is the best camera of any tablet and the fastest processor. If you are looking to replace your laptop with a tablet, this should be your only bet.
The iPad Pro is the closest thing to a replacement of a computer. if you can afford it, then it is a great investment.
2. Apple iPad (10.2-inch)

- A10 Fusion chip
- Touch ID fingerprint sensor and Apple Pay
- 8MP back camera, 1.2MP FaceTime HD front camera

This is the standard tablet we would recommend most people. If all you want to do is check your email, social media, and stream video, then from a price-value point of view, nothing can beat this.
The 2019 iPad has a 10.2-inch display which is bigger than all the standard iPad models pre-2019.
The screen is bright and colourful and you will like the viewing experience, however, if you are looking to draw and sketch, then the iPad Pro or iPad Air are better options.
The screen does not have anti-reflective coating like the other versions, so there’s that.
Though it has the same A10 Fusion chip from 2016, it still holds up well and will do all tasks like email, social media, and video easily.
The iPad runs on iOS 13 and Apple has made many adjustments to make it more user-friendly.
There is an option to add a B071GF8SXNSmart Keyboard made by Apple which turns your iPad into almost like a laptop.
Battery is great. You can use it for 10 hours at a stretch doing all the tasks like email, social media, reading, and viewing videos.
It has a front and a back camera which are decent but not great. Their ideal use is FaceTime and not photography.
It is ideal for Zoom meetings and the audio works great. The microphone is also one of the best in the industry.
It has great hardware, an easy operating system, and a good screen. The standard model comes in 32 GB and it is sufficient for regular use but you may want to upgrade to the 128 GB model if you plan to play a lot of games.
This is the tablet we would recommend if you do not need pro features and have a budget of around Rs. 40,000.
3. Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1
- 10.1 inch (25.65 centimeters) WUXGA with 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution

- 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal memory, expandable up to 512 GB
- 6,150 mAH lithium-ion battery
- Dual Speakers with Dolby Atmos
- Release date – February 2019
The best alternative to the iPad at the best possible price, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is a great option for users who cannot stretch their budget to the iPads.
It has a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 pixel LCD screen. it is not sharp as the iPad but it is surprisingly decent for the price.
This is a big drawback of the tablet. Gaming fans would want to look at the iPads if they want to game on a tablet as the Samsung tab A 10.1 does not really have the horsepower to do much. An example to gauge the performance would be that PUBG runs stable on “Balanced” settings.
You might notice stutters when under heavy usage and multitasking, but it runs ok most of the time.
The Tab A has a 6250 mAh battery and uses a USB-C Connector. The battery lasts for about 10-12 hours on average use.
The Tab A 10.1 has a 5 MP front-facing camera which is good at taking pictures though it is not impressive in low-light conditions.
It has an 8 MP rear-facing camera that can record videos up to 1080p.
The tablet is decent in every aspect but it is exceptional value thanks to its price. if your budget is around Rs. 15,000 and you need a tablet, this one is a no-brainer.
4. HUAWEI MediaPad T5 Tablet
- 5MP rear camera with AF, f/2.4 aperture, 2 MP, FF, f/2.4 aperture | 2MP front camera

- 5100mAH lithium-polymer battery
- 1 year manufacturer warranty for device and 6 months manufacturer warranty for in-box accessories including batteries from the date of purchase
- Release date – July 2019
The successor to the Mediapad T3, the Huawei Mediapad T3 is a good alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Tab. It is slightly cheaper and offers good value.
The body of the Mediapad T5 is made entirely of metal with a matte black texture which makes it easier to hold.
It has a 10-inch display panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The screen is not that bright to use comfortably outside.
Indoors, the screen is good and colourful making the viewing experience decent nad comparable to the Samsung Tab A.
Performance is smooth and snappy. Everyday browsing and multitasking is a breeze. Gaming is also decent on this tablet and you can play games like PUBG on high settings.
It supports an additional 256 GB of memory in the form of SD card support to the inbuilt 32 GB space.
Speakers are loud but not bass-heavy as can be expected from tablets.
It has a 5100 mAh battery which can last for about 8-9 hours of decent usage.
This is where the Mediapad T5 falls short. It is barely good enough to take pictures compared to other options.
Given, the price is the Mediapad T5 is a good option for people who want a cheap gaming tablet and are not that much concerned with camera use.
5. HONOR Pad 5
- 20.3 cm (8-inch) IPS FHD Capacitive Touchscreen (1920 x 1200 pixels resolution)

- 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Voice Calling
- 8MP Back Camera & 8MP Front Camera
- 5100mAH Lithium-polymer Battery
- Release date – June 2019
Honor is a sub-brand under the Huawei umbrella. The Honor Pad is a budget option for the tablet market and it works quite well given the price.
The display is not that great, just good for casual browsing and reading. Nothing outstanding. The screen is quite reflective in sunlight and you can’t really use it.
We found very less grip on the tablet and thus a cover is almost necessary to use with this.
The performance is great for normal usage like browsing, reading, and watching YouTube but not when it comes to heavy-duty tasks like gaming.
The speakers are loud enough and sound quite good indoors.
Batter lasts for about 8-10 hours of average use. Not great but not bad either.
The camera does not really do much and is ok for the occasional zoom calls but not for much else. Don’t expect any real good photos.
The Honor Pad 5 will do all the basic tasks quite well but don’t expect it to satisfy your gaming needs. For the price you pay, there are better options on our list.
