  • Water-resistant up to 30 meters

Conclusion

If your budget is under Rs. 10,000 then the SJCam SJ4000 is the best option for a vlogging camera. It is a pretty good deal for someone who is starting out and does not want to spend a lot on equipment.

It is not a 4K recorder, so if you wanted that you will have to increase your budget.

2. Campark Action Cam

Campark Action Cam
  • Resolution – up to 4K at 30 fps
  • Water-resistant up to 30 meters
  • WiFi support

The Campark ACT76 is a good choice for people on a budget and want a basic action camera. It is not as good as a GoPro but it will do the job if you are just starting out.

Design

It looks like a clone of GoPro but not the same quality of course. It comes with a waterproof case.

The menu in the camera is simple and easy to use with the buttons of the camera.

Video Quality

It has a Sony sensor that records in 4K at 30 fps and the video is decent (not great) and sharp. It is a wide-angle lens that is suitable for a sports camera.

Battery

It comes with 2 batteries so you get a spare one beforehand. The battery is 1050 mAh which is pretty good and it lasts about 40-90 minutes on average. It doesn’t seem a lot but it works for many people.

3. YI 4K Sports and Action Video Camera

YI 4K Sports and Action Video Camera
  • Resolution – up to 4K at 30 fps
  • Water-resistant up to 30 meters
  • WiFi support
  • Storage up to 32 GB
  • USB charging

Design

It looks very sleek and minimalistic. It has a touchscreen at the back which is very responsive and easy to use. Xiaomi says the screen is made with Gorilla Glass which doesn’t make it indestructible but certainly resistant to scratches.

It does not come with a waterproof case, you’ll have to buy that separately. The camera has a standard tripod thread in the bottom so that you can use it with any of the standard tripods.

Video Quality

It records at:

  • 4K/30 fps
  • 1080p/120 fps
  • 720p/240 fps

It has a 12 MP camera and for the average user, the quality is sufficient but nowhere near a GoPro for instance.

It is good at taking images as well as videos.

Battery

You get one battery with the camera. It is a 1400 mAh battery. Recording at max resolution (4K) will drain the battery and it will die in about an hour of continuous recording.

Lower resolutions will increase battery life.

Conclusion

An action camera with excellent video quality and a really good price. Great for action junkies on a budget. Doesn’t hold a candle to GoPro in terms of video quality but it is a good choice for people starting out.

4. GoPro Hero 7 Black

GoPro Hero 7 Black
  • Resolution – up to 4K at 60 fps
  • Water-resistant up to 30 meters
  • WiFi support
  • Storage up to 32 GB
  • USB charging

Design

There are three GoPro designs in the 2019 year – Black, Silver and White. The Black is the flagship model.

It is waterproof up to 10 meters. It has a rugged and rubbery body. It is solid and feels like it can stand a tank.

The software is easy and smartphone-like. You will have no real problems in operating it.

Video Quality

It has a 12 MP camera with a wide-angle sensor. The main feature of the camera is the Hyperstabilization which gives a stable video like how you would get when the camera is on a tripod.

It has the best image stabilization software among all the cameras in the world.

Audio

It has a few voice commands where the camera does when they are uttered. For example, “GoPro take a photo” will make the GoPro take a photo without touching it.

The recorded audio quality is good and has good clarity without all the vibration that is usually associated with action cameras.

Battery

One of the downsides of the small size of the Hero 7 is the limited battery it can pack in. You will get around 1 hour and 45 minutes of continuous video at 1080p/30fps which is ok for an action camera.

You will get about 45 minutes of continuous shooting in 4K/60fps.

Conclusion

For adventure-junkies, this is worth the price as no other camera gives the combination of ruggedness and video quality.

GoPro Hero 8
  • Resolution – up to 4K at 60 fps
  • Water-resistant up to 30 meters
  • WiFi support
  • Storage up to 32 GB

The successor to the Hero 7, the design is more or less the same with a few improvements such as it is designed to be frameless. You do not need any cover to attach it to something.

It has one big door to the side which houses all slots (SD, charging etc.)

A complaint a lot of the users had was the heating up of the device when recording for long periods in 4K.

Video Quality

Video quality is great. The HyperStabilization feature has improved even more and it gives a really impressive stable video.

Audio

Because of the frameless design, the Hero 8 has the best audio among all the GoPros.

Battery

It packs the same battery as the Hero 7 Black. You will get an hour while recording continuously in 4K.

Conclusion

This is the best GoPro available yet. If you have the money and want the absolute best, then this is a good choice. But if you rather save money, then the GoPro Hero 7 would do just as well.

6. DJI OSMO Action

DJI OSMO Action

The only true competition to the GoPro out there, the DJI Osmo is an action camera made by the world’s best consumer drone company, DJI.

Design

It looks like the GoPro with a wider screen of 16:9 compared to Hero 7’s 4:3. The screen is a bit dimmer than the GoPro.

It is waterproof up to 36 feet (or 11 meters). It has a detachable lens. The menu navigation is superb and better than the GoPros. One neat feature is the storage of custom modes where you can save different presets of your recording settings.

Battery

Battery life is identical to the GoPros. You can get about 80 minutes on continuous 4K recording.
